The autobahn is calling again. Like its 2010 predecessor, Deutsche Elektronische 2 is a primer on German electronic music and Krautrock's stirrings. The focus here is on width and depth, so those seeking buried treasure may be best served elsewhere. What this compilation does very well is join the dots between players who came to prominence from 1972 to 1983. The compilation is strong on the works of individuals such as Hans-Joachim Roedelius ( Base & Apex, a collaboration with Brian Eno and Dieter Moebius, is included), and Michael Rother and Harald Grosskopf (whose 1979 Synthesist album was a precursor to much bedroom electronica of today). It also points listeners towards such acts as Cluster, Can, DAF and Faust.
