The Original High

Artist: Adam Lambert
Genre: Pop
Label: Warner Bros.

There is a line on Adam Lambert’s third album that sees him sing, “I’m sick and tired of living in your shadow” – but it’s hard to see how such a creative chameleon could be stifled.

Perhaps it's directed at his former label RCA, which he left in 2013? As defiant as the American Idol alumnus and sometime Queen frontman may be, this collection fails to do his remarkable voice justice.

These are glossy, overproduced pop tunes (Rumours, The Light) with a tiresome proliferation of overused club beats.

The only time Lambert's personality is not muffled by slick production is on the funky, fun Evil in the Night.

Otherwise, this unfortunately titled record is neither original nor uplifting enough to generate a high of any description.
