Yugoslavia scored a comfortable victory over Malta yesterday to join the Republic of Ireland, Macedonia and Croatia on six points at the top of Group Eight. Yugoslavia, 3-0 winners in Valetta, have a game in hand on their rivals.

Albert Nadj scored a goal in each half as Yugoslavia cruised to victory. Nadj was on target with a 22nd-minute shot and a 55th minute header as the Yugoslavs dominated the match. Savo Milosevic scored the final goal with a last-minute header.

Cyprus, the surprise pacesetters in Group Six, downed San Marino 4-0 in Limassol for their third win in four qualifying matches.
