Senior amateur international Gary Cullen and Irish girls international Martina Gillen made a winning combination when they won the East of Ireland Mixed foursomes championship, sponsored by Cassidy's Hotel, at Luttrellstown Castle on Sunday. The Beaverstown pair shot 226 in the difficult gale-force wind to beat the husband and wife pairing of Niall Goulding (Portmarnock) and Oonagh Purfield (Co Louth) by two shots, with Stephen Marshall from Baberton and Alison Rose from Stirling a shot further back in third place.

Three shots off the pace after the first round, the Beaverstown duo shot into the lead with an excellent level par 72 in the second round. A disastrous nine over par 81 in the second round cost Milltown's Declan Coolican and Janet Lamb from West Wilts dearly, and they had to settle for fifth place after a final round of 75. The best nett was won by Colin Cassidy (Portmarnock) and Ashling Roche from the Grange with 215.
