IRELAND'S Jeremy Henry and Sammy Allen stormed back from five shots down to win the World Bowls Pairs Championship in Adelaide, Australia, yesterday, The beat the holders, Scotland's Richard Corsie and Alex Marshall, 21-19 in the final.
The Irish internationals battled back from 11-6 down to lead 19-16, but the Scots rallied to draw level at 19-19. Henry and Allen then landed the knock out punch, scoring two singles to clinch the title.
Allen (57), collected his third world crown, having one gold in the triples and fours in 1984 and 1988 respectively. He now goes for a full set of titles when he contests the singles which starts today.
Henry (21), savoured the joy of his first world title. He has already won Irish and Home Countries Crowns in his meteoric career and he reached the quarter finals of the World Indoor Singles at Preston last month.
