Tiger Woods began the Canadian Open in Montreal yesterday just as he finished last year - on the top of the leaderboard. Woods shot a bogey-free five-under-par 65 to share the mid-round lead in the $3.8 million event with Jim McGovern and Matt Gogel. One shot back are Joey Sindelar and John Daly, who won the BMW International in Munich last week. Daly was bogey-free in his 66 and has now made only three bogeys in his last 90 holes.
Woods's round was boosted by an eagle on the par five 13th that moved him from two-under-par to four-under. Then a birdie on the 18th gave him a tie for the lead.
Irelands Richie Coghlan opened with a two over par 72.
