TIGER WOODS was battling to make the cut in the second round of the ATT National at Aronimink, Pennsylvania yesterday. Woods looked set to survive when he was two under for the day – one over for the tournament – after 13 holes of his second round. But bogeys at the 5th and 8th (his 14th and 17th) put him back on the cut mark.

Arjun Atwal, the overnight leader, fell away as Jason Day, Justin Rose and Charley Hoffman tied for the lead on five under.

On the European Challenge tour Nicolas Meitinger fired a staggering 11 under par 60 in the second round of The Princess event to break the course record and move to within one shot of the lead on a day of low scoring.

The German is nine under for the tournament after blitzing round Båstad Golf Club in Sweden to sit four behind leader Alexander Bjork. His first nine – an eight under par 27 which included an eagle, six birdies and two pars – was the lowest nine-hole score on the Challenge Tour this season and equalled the record for the lowest in the tour’s history. Ireland’s Gareth Shaw and Johnny Caldwell dropped back with respective rounds of 73 and 75.
