RACING: Trainer David Wintle will appear before the disciplinary panel of the Jockey Club today to answer the charge of bringing racing into disrepute following his appearance on the BBC's Kenyon Confronts programme.

The inquiry, which is scheduled for 10 a.m., will establish under Rule 220 (iii) whether Wintle "has acted in a manner which was prejudicial to the integrity, proper conduct, or good reputation of horse racing in Britain in respect of the conversations portrayed in the BBC production Kenyon Confronts between himself and reporters from the programme".

The Cheltenham-based trainer was seen by viewers during the TV broadcast in a tussle with presenter Paul Kenyon during a race meeting at Stratford.

The two other trainers featured on the programme - Ferdy Murphy and Jamie Osborne - were each fined £4,000 for acting in a manner prejudicial to the good reputation of horse racing.

The panel will also consider whether Wintle has committed a breach of Rule 155 (i) and (ii) in respect of the running of Seattle Alley at Warwick on March 9th, 2002, and at Fontwell on March 23rd.

Rule 155 (i) states that every horse which runs in a race shall run on its merits, while a breach of Rule 155 (ii) occurs if there is evidence the trainer either gave inadequate instructions or gave instructions to the rider which, if obeyed, could or would prevent the horse winning or obtaining the best possible placing.

Kelso's meeting tomorrow has become the latest casualty of the cold snap and has been abandoned following an inspection yesterday afternoon.

Clerk of the course Jonnie Fenwicke-Clennell said: "We've abandoned. We're still covered in snow and it's freezing as well with no chance of a thaw. It needed to be thawing today. And it was waterlogged before we started."
