WICKLOW minors pulled off an upset in the curtain raiser at Navan yesterday when two first half goals set them up for a hard fought victory over favourites Dublin.
The goals came within a four minute spell midway through the half, wing forwards Keith Burke and Anthony Nolan clinically finishing on each occasion. They led 2-3 to 0-5 at the interval but Dublin rallied during the third quarter, with centre forward Kenneth Kilmurray and corner forward Anthony Briody leading the way, and hit four points without reply to level the game.
The quality of their approach play deteriorated somewhat from there and efforts to take control of the game were undermined by some poor shooting from frees and general play.
Wicklow recovered their composure in the final quarter with some brave defending at the back, and struck for the vital points through full forward Darragh Keogh and substitute Mark Donoghue.
