Wicklow 2-16 Athlone IT 1-10:ATHLONE IT had been a match for Wicklow in ordinary time in this O'Byrne Shield game at Baltinglass yesterday, but them blew it in the first period of extra-time.

With the aid of a first-half goal by Danny McGovern, the students had led for long periods and put the tie to extra-time with a late equaliser by Levi Murphy.

But then things went horribly wrong for them in the first period of extra-time. Paul McGee got a straight red card moments after he had been introduced as a substitute and minutes later Tony Hannon scored from a penalty.

Wicklow dominated from there and Paul Cronin blasted to the net for a second goal.
