Wicklow's footballers laid the trauma of Mullingar last spring to rest when they gained revenge on Westmeath with this 15 points win at Aughrim yesterday. And the home side were not in the least flattered by the victory margin.
Westmeath were a big disappointment, and could not have complained had Wicklow scored a couple more goals.
Even though playing against the wind in the first half, Wicklow led by 1-6 to 0-3 at the break and could have been further ahead if they had taken all their chances.
Any hope Westmeath had of getting back into this game was gone a minute into the second half, when Wicklow's centre forward Ciaran Shannon finished another good move with a goal.
Keith Byrne hammered the final nail in Westmeath's coffin with a third goal on 47 minutes.
