Mayo qualified for the Connacht minor championship football final following their comprehensive victory over Sligo at McHale Park, Castlebar yesterday.
Mayo, the reigning Connacht champions, and last year's beaten All-Ireland finalists, laid the foundation for this victory in the first half when, aided by a strong breeze, they chalked up 2-9 to Sligo's one point. The Mayo goals coming from Cathal Carty and Ronan MacNamara.
Within 20 seconds of the re-start Mayo had stretched their lead when full forward Kevin McHugh found the Sligo net. Five minutes later the game was over as a contest when Brian Lynskey hit a thundering shot to the roof of the net for Mayo's fourth goal.
