Club career: Was a student at Warwick University, studying economics and politics, when he was signed by Bill Shankly at Liverpool in 1970 and went on to make over 460 appearances for the club. Stayed at Anfield for 10 years, before having a brief spell in America with Minnesota Kicks.
International career: Won 34 caps between 1971 and 1981, his final game coming against Holland in Rotterdam in a World Cup qualifier.
Highlight: Too many to mention in his club career - he won just about verything, both in domestic and European football - but he must take special satisfaction in his role in the development of Michael Owen, who joined the club at 11 (not to mention Steve McManaman and Robbie Fowler, two more products of the club's youth policy).
Where is he now? Liverpool's Director of Youth Football and head of the club's new £13 million soccer academy.
