Speaking of George Weah: last week we told you our sources (i.e., the football transfer rumours we lifted from newspapers across the water) were claiming that he was all set to join Arsenal or Leeds.
So peeved were we by this misinformation we boycotted the nationals for a day and took to reading London local paper the Thamesmead Gazzette instead, as one does. And what a bit of luck that was: on the very day we leafed through its internet pages we spotted an exclusive on Newcastle's bid for Mark Kinsella.
"No sale," insisted Charlton manager Alan Curbishly, who then kind of contradicted himself by adding that Kinsella would go nowhere for less than £5 million. Newcastle manager Bobby Robson is said to be thinking about another bid, but has vowed that Shay Given will still be at St James' Park to greet his Irish team-mate if and when he arrives - he turned down an offer from Ipswich (who, we are told, are all set to sell their goalkeeper Richard Wright to Chelsea) for Given.
Other rumoured moves: Chris Sutton (Chelsea to Leeds or Spurs); Emile Heskey (Leicester to Liverpool before the end of the season); Geoff Horsfield (Fulham to Leeds); Antonio Cassano (Bari to Manchester United); Erik Mykland (Panathinaikos to Spurs); Ruud van Nistelrooy (PSV Eindhoven to any club with 30 spare million in the bank); Vassilis Tsartas (Seville to Liverpool); Hakan Sukur (Galatasaray to Aston Villa); Brian Kidd (unemployed to Wales, as Mark Hughes' assistant, or Liverpool, as first team coach).
