Wexford braved the floods and cobbled a team together but still they proved too good for Kilkenny in the disappointing O'Bye Cup game at Clara yesterday.
Kilkenny opened the scoring with a point from Liam Kenny. Within minutes Oliver Kinlough equalised before Diarmuid Berry scored a good goal for the winners, who play Laois in the next round next Sunday.
Kilkenny, with the wind behind them, hung on tenaciously, but they had luck on their side in the 14th and 18th minutes when goalkeeper Eddie Mulrooney brought off good saves from Scott Doran and Diarmuid Berry.
However, Mulrooney's brilliance couldn't prevent Wexford leading at half time by 1-4 to 0-2.
Early in the second half, Kilkenny got on top, but a lot of hard work brought just one point, a free from Damien Walsh. When Wexford burst up the field in their first attack, they had a simple point from Doran and that score appeared to break the hearts of the opposition.
