BASKETBALL NATIONAL LEAGUE FINALS:MICHAEL WESTBROOKS capped a great week for his family after he inspired Killester to the first treble in their history following a 74-64 win over UL Eagles to secure the men's SuperLeague.
On Friday, his younger brother Eric celebrated further success when he helped St Fintan’s High School to the All-Ireland Under-19A League title.
“I am so glad to be part of an achievement like this,” said Michael Westbrooks. “It has been a brilliant season and we have now emulated UCC Demons’ treble win of 2009. These are the games you live for, it was a game of high intensity between two very good teams but we have shown what we are made of when it has mattered most this season.
Meanwhile, Team Montenotte Hotel Cork secured a third league title in a row after overcoming old foes DCU Mercy 64-57 in the final of the women’s SuperLeague.
Gráinne Dwyer returned from Australia at the start of the year to boost her club’s hopes and she didn’t disappoint with an MVP display against DCU.
“It was a fantastic team performance,” said Dwyer. “We came out flying in the second half after having to make up a deficit of 14 points.”
