WATERFORD led all the way against All Ireland champions Wexford at Walsh Park yesterday.
Both sides were already out of the running for a place in next Sunday's final of the competition at the same venue and in keeping with the noncompetitive nature of the exercise, two experimental teams provided only moderate entertainment for a small crowd.
Waterford led by 1-7 to 1-4 at half time, their goal coming from a Paul Flynn free in the second minute. Gary Laffan replied in kind for Wexford four minutes from the break. As the winners coasted through the second half, an M J Reck goal for Wexford near the end, followed by a Paul Finn point only helped narrow the gap to respectable proportions.
