Courtney Walsh shrugged off veteran status to claim his best ever figures against England in the first Test at Edgbaston yesterday.
The 37-year-old claimed five for 36 to help dismiss England for 179 before the tourists reached 50 for two by the close.
Walsh caught Mark Ramprakash at short leg in the opener to become the first player ever to claim 450 Test victims.
He also grabbed the crucial wickets of Michael Atherton and Graeme Hick in an early spell of three for two in 19 balls. Only a determined 39-run ninth-wicket partnership between Andrew Caddick and Darren Gough helped England pass 150.
Gough hit a determined 23 - his highest score for England since scoring 51 against Australia in Sydney in his seventh Test - but was run out attempting a quick single.
The fast bowler then responded by trapping Chris Gayle leg before in the third over of West Indies' reply while Caddick tempted Wavell Hinds into driving straight to captain Nasser Hussain at mid-off.
