THERE is a doubt about the fitness of Ireland tight head prop Paul Wallace for the "peace international" against the Barbarians at Lansdowne Road on Saturday.

Wallace is troubled by a hamstring injury. If Wallace is ruled he will be replaced by Angus McKeen, the Lansdowne and Ireland A prop.

Wallace was able to do some training with the team at Anglesea Road last night. But manager Pat Whelan said "Paul Wallace is troubled by a hamstring injury and we have some doubt about him, We will see how he is this morning, the position should be more clear cut today and we, will in all probability make a decision this morning on whether or not he can play. If he is ruled out, I will send for Angus McKeen."

McKeen has played for Ireland at schools, under 21, development and A levels. He played in the last A international this season against England in March, He is due to play for Lansdowne in the Leinster senior Cup final against Terenure College on Sunday.

Ireland coach Murray Kidd took charge of the backs last night and Ireland A team coach Dave Haslett worked with the forwards. That task had been undertaken by New Zealander John Mitchell during the International Championship. Mitchell has since joined the Sale club in England.

There is a change to the training arrangements for the Ireland side this morning. They had been scheduled to train on the back pitch at Lansdowne Road. However due to work on the surface of that ground it was not deemed suitable so Ireland will again train at Anglsea Road at 11 a.m.

David Campese, who is due to play at full back for the Barbarians arrived in Dublin yesterday and will undergo a fitness test on his injury knee.

Campese is under treatment for the injury sustained playing for New South Wales. The fact that he has decided to travel indicates that he believes he has at least a reasonably good chance of being fit.

Steve Ojomoh, the Bath and England back row forward, was yesterday named to replace Francois Pienaar on the blind side flank in the Barbarians side. Pienaar, who is travelling to Dublin to give his support to the fixture, was due to captain the Barbarians but was ruled out by nose and knee injuries sustained last Saturday playing for Transvaal.

∙ England lock Garath Archer has been banned from playing rugby for failing to appear before a Gloucestershire disciplinary committee last night.

The suspension will stay in force until the county committee consider two yellow card offences from league games while Archer was at Bristol.
