US PGA TOUR: Camilo Villegas shot a final round of 68 to secure his first US Tour victory in the BMW Championship in St Louis yesterday.
Birdies at the 13th and 14th gave him a crucial two-stroke margin at 15 under par over Dudley Hart with Anthony Kim and Jim Furyk a shot further back.
Earlier Colombian Villegas and Jim Furyk had been tied for the lead early in the final round at Bellerive. Villegas remained as he started the round at 13-under after one birdie and one bogey in five holes, while Furyk had picked up one shot. At that point, they had a handy three-stroke lead over the field.
Swede Fredrik Jacobson headed the European contingent, after picking up five strokes in 10 holes to improve to nine under.
Padraig Harrington finished with a lacklustre one over par 71 which contained just one birdie. His three over par total of 283 left him outside the qualifiers for next week's FedEx finals. Earlier in the day, 23 players returned to complete the third round.
While Furyk enjoyed a lie-in after finishing his third round, Villegas, who had five holes left, gathered three successive pars before making a 10-foot birdie at the par-five eighth, his 17th hole.
SENIORS TOUR: Bernhard Langer clinched his maiden European Seniors Tour title at the inaugural Casa Serena Open to close the gap on Ian Woosnam at the top of the Order of Merit after winning the battle of the former Masters Champions.
Langer carded a third consecutive four-under-par 67 to finish on 11-under-par 201, three strokes clear of the Welshman who birdied the last for a one-under-par 71 to finish runner-up on nine-under-par 204.
Langer, one of Europe's most decorated golfers, posted birdies on the first, 12th, 14th and 18th holes, while Woosnam dropped shots on the third and 11th holes after also opening with a birdie, before picking up shots on the 14th and 18th.
It was another flawless round of golf from Langer, who only dropped one shot during his 54 holes at Casa Serena Golf, near Prague, to complete a double in the Czech Republic following his win at the Czech Open in 1997.
The 51-year-old's victory at the tournament staged by Langer Sport Marketing, the company run by his brother Erwin, means only € 12,787 now separates the two Ryder Cup-winning captains at the top of the Order of Merit.
Eamonn Darcy shot a final round 74 for a two-over-par total of 215, with Jimmy Heggarty on 216 after a 71 and Denis O'Sullivan on 217 after a 77.
CHALLENGE TOUR: Denmark's Mark Haastrup claimed his maiden title with victory in the Dubliner Challenge in Sweden and has reset his sights on a place on The European Tour.
Haastrup, who shared the lead going into the third and final round after Saturday's play was washed out due to a flooded course at the Hills Golf Club in Gothenburg, got off to a great start with four birdies in his first nine holes, and, though Germany's Benjamin Miarka fought back on the home stretch, Haastrup held on for his first title.
A final round of three-under-par 68 gave the Dane a seven-under-par total of 206, one clear of Miarka, who closed with a 67, and four ahead of Gustac Andersson.
Peter O'Keeffe tied for seventh place on level-par 213 after a 71, with Gareth Shaw shooting 74 for 217.
LET TOUR: Germany's Martina Eberl overcame a six-shot deficit to claim a one-stroke victory at the Nykredit Masters in Denmark yesterday.
The 27-year-old from Munich finished with a final round of seven-under-par 66 with a 54-hole, 14-under-par total of 205, at Simon's Golf Club.
Second round leader Melissa Reid of England was runner-up at 13-under-par after closing with a level-par 73.
Annika Sorenstam, playing in her last tournament in Europe before stepping away from tournament golf at the end of the year, took third place on nine-under after a closing 71.
Eberl caught Reid after six birdies in her first 15 holes and was two shots ahead of the 20-year-old rookie after further birdies on holes 16 and 17.
