Davis Love has revealed that Ryder Cup captain Ben Crenshaw gave the American players victory rings - before play had even started at Brookline.

Love, who sparked the United States' revival on the final day at the Country Club with a convincing win over Jean Van de Velde in the singles, said: "It was Monday night at the Oyster House.

"He (Crenshaw) said `Super Bowl teams get their rings after they win. I'm going to give them to you guys this Monday night. That's how good I feel about this'."

Love, meanwhile, believes two-time US Open champion Curtis Strange would be a good choice as the American captain for the 34th Ryder Cup at the Belfry in 2001.

Strange, a captain's pick who famously lost to Nick Faldo in the singles at Oak Hill four years ago when Europe came from behind on the final day for a stunning 14 1/2 to 13 1/2 victory, is considered to be one of the frontrunners for the event.

"He knew the things to do to pump you up and keep you loose," said Love, who compared him to a co-captain. "I think he would be a great captain."
