Former England defender David Unsworth resumed training with Aston Villa yesterday after his proposed £3 million move to Everton ran into problems.
The 24-year-old had looked destined to rejoin the Goodison Park club when Villa agreed to sell him only days after he arrived in the Midlands following a £3 million move from West Ham United.
But Unsworth, who asked to leave Villa following two nightmare journeys on the M6 from Birmingham to his Merseyside home, remains a Villa player after Everton failed to agree with Villa how the transfer fee would be paid.
Villa manager John Gregory said: "This has been rumbling on for 10 days. With Everton not prepared to reach agreement so far, we've had no choice but to call him back. Now we'll just have to take it one day at a time."
Unsworth had originally stopped training with Villa at the start of the month when it appeared that his move back to Everton would be just a straightforward transfer.
