SIGERSON CUP UL 2-9 DIT 0-13:THERE WAS no shortage of drama at Clontarf yesterday as favourites DIT were nudged out by a smashing UL outfit.
UL, managed by former Kerry goalkeeper Declan O’Keefe, were well prepared and they dealt admirably with a DIT panel that was packed with intercounty talent.
With Bernard Allen effective at corner forward, DIT quickly seized control, kicking four points on the spin.
But as the first half evolved UL became more competitive.
The underdogs only trailed by 0-7 to 0-4 in the 26th minute when the efficient David Moran rattled the DIT net with a precise penalty.
Allen stroked over a splendid point to put DIT ahead at the break, but UL, with David Niblock impressive at centrefield, remained feisty after the restart and the teams were level with nine minutes remaining.
Moran then crafted a goalscoring opportunity for Brian Fox and the promising Tipperary attacker clipped a cute goal.
UL were cool and composed in the closing stages as they caused a significant shock in the capital.
