THERE are some Cork football buffs who could be laughing their way to the bank on Monday morning.
UCC started the county championship as 33 to 1 outsiders but now they are just one game away from the title - they play Clonakilty in the final at Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Sunday.
The pairing itself has turned out to be as unique as the experience endured by local bookmaker Liam Cashman who laid the long odds at the start of the championship. The generous odds may have been prompted by the fact that it is 23 years since UCC were in the final.
The students have proved a much better side than they were given credit for, though this cannot be any huge surprise given that the players who start on Sunday have all sampled intercounty experience.
Included are Kerry stars Seamus Moynihan and Johnny Crowley and Cork's Mark O'Sullivan, Johnny Buckley and Ronan McCarthy. Clare hurler Frank Lohan is among the substitutes.
