FITZGIBBON CUP QUARTER-FINALS: UCC 0-16 GMIT 0-8:UCC WILL need to step up a gear if they are to add to their record 40 Fitzgibbon Cup titles, but there was no doubting their superiority in this quarter-final at Carnmore in Galway yesterday.

But while the dominance of the Cork side was never in doubt, they never quite put away a GMIT side who only managed one point from play over the hour and yet always looked good to stage another big finale if they could get a goal.

However, the UCC defence, especially their hard-working half-back line of Jamie Nagle, Bryan O’Sullivan and Willie Egan, snuffed out the threat.

Eight wides to UCC’s three told its own story and their only point from play over the hour came from Colin Egan, but UCC did enough to secure another semi-final spot.
