FENERBAHCE'S historic win over Manchester United dominated Turkey's media yesterday as the whole country celebrated with joy and surprise.
"Fenerbahce goes down in history!" screamed the banner headline of the conservative Sahah daily. "The miracle happened," said the mass selling Hurriyet. "The Fenerbahce legend!" exclaimed the liberal Milliyet.
Turks poured onto the rain dampened streets, shouting, firing guns and sounding their car horns even before Wednesday night's Champions' League match was over.
Overzealous celebrations took their usual toll. A 25 year old man, firing randomly out of his window in jubilation, shot a woman in the stomach and her 10 month old baby in the feet. They were rushed to hospital.
