Tullamore's greatest ambassador, Dinny White, received a special presentation at the club last week to mark the 25th anniversary of his winning the East of Ireland championship at Co Louth in 1976.
White joined Tullamore in 1965 and two years later, with Paul Burke, Brian Malone and Tony Tynan, won the Leinster Barton Shield title before they went down to Limerick in the All-Ireland final. In 1972, White shared in the club's success in the Irish Mixed Foursomes. In 1976, White won the East of Ireland title and was on the winning Barton Cup team.
White has won the Tullamore club championship 16 times to add to five captain's prizes, an amazing feat for a scratch handicap player. White also left his mark on the Scratch Cup scene with wins in Tullamore, the Curragh, Birr, Roscommon and Woodbrook. In 1971, White won all his matches in the interprovincial series and also helped Offaly to the All-Ireland finals of 1988 and 1992.
