Hugh O'Connor claimed three gold medals in Belfast last night as the Irish National Swimming Championships continued at the Grove Leisure Centre. The New Ross man upstaged his older brother Adrian in the process when he opened his account with a new Irish record of one minute 59.42 seconds in the 200 metres backstroke final.

O'Connor then struck gold in the 100 metres individual medley when he retained his title with a time of 58.75, and, to complete a night to remember, he shared in the glory as his club set an Irish best time of 3:48.31 in the 4x100 metres medley.
