Frankie Dettori may have effectively conceded the jockeys' title but consolidated his position as Salisbury's top rider with a 43-1 treble there yesterday.
Dettori has now partnered 29 winners at the course in the past five years following successes for Deterrent, Absolute Utopia and Tarry. Dettori and his main trainer John Gosden are the team to have on your side at the track with a near 50 per cent strike rate and the pair did not let their supporters down when Deterrent took the Cranborne Conditions Stakes.
The son of Warning, who scored at Nottingham last time, was short of room two furlongs out but Dettori manoeuvred the colt out of trouble before swooping to collar Toblersong by three-quarters of a length.
Dettori set the ball rolling when obtaining a dream run up the inside aboard Absolute Utopia to catch leader Sea Danzig for a two and a half lengths win in the Fonthill Handicap.
And he completed the treble in the Hurdlers Claiming Stakes when coming from off the pace on Gay Kelleway's Tarry to record a half-length verdict over Wilkins.
