MOTOR SPORT: Britain's Will Gollop and Dublin driver Dermot Carnegie will battle for points in the British Rallycross Championship at Nutts Corner, Co Antrim tomorrow and at Mondello Park on Sunday.

But the two Ford Focus drivers will not have it all their own way, as they will face very strong competition with the top ten in the British Championship after Round One all entered for the two Irish rounds.

They are: 1, Gollop (Ford Focus) 100 points; 2, Carnegie (Focus) 95; 3, Pat Doran (Ford RS200) 90; 4, Lawrence Gibson, (MG Metro 6R4) 85; 5, Helmut Holfeld (Ford Escort WRC) 80; 6, Mike Turpin (Vauxhall Nova) 75; 7, Mike Manning, (Escort WRC) 70; 8, Steve Mundy, (Focus WRC) 65; 9, Christopher Evans (Nissan Micra) 60; 10, Gordon Rogers (Vauxhall Corsa) 55.

Also competing in the Supercar class are John McCluskey and Eamonn McAleenan in Peugeots, Terry Briggs and George Tracey in Metro 6R4s and Michael Morris in a Subaru Impreza WRC. At Mondello the heats start from 10.30a.m. The finals for the well- supported Modified, Stock Hatch and Minicross classes run from 3.30p.m., followed by what promises to be an incredible Supercar final.

Eamonn Byrne has won the Hewison Trophy for the ninth time, and is only one away from equalling the long-standing record of 10 autotest championships held by Carnegie. Eddie Peterson finished second in the series, relegating twice in a row winner J J Farrell to third.
