So another year goes by and the best player in the world never to have won a major remains Colin Montgomerie, or is it David Duval or even Phil Mickeslon? They're all great accumulators of money but have yet to crack the big one and the same is true of many Golf Masters managers.
Tiger Woods was our top earner in this season's majors with £452,667. Davis Love was second (£305,867), Montgomerie third (£254,000) and Mickelson fourth (£247,600). Among Golf Masters managers, Tom Barry's `Tom's Tops' lived up to their name with a Majors haul of £1,156,611. `Ellen's Best Golfers' from the Ballinasloe stable of Barry Davis were second with £1,092,667 and the sixth placed overall team, Aonghus McGann's `Adare 99', were third in Majors with £1,086,778.
McGann is getting married to Catherine O'Dwyer in Adare on Saturday and named his team in honour of the event. Well, Aonghus, when you return from your honeymoon in Bali (well for some), you'll be able to slip into a Golf Masters Polo Shirt, our present for all occasions. Your case was helped by a letter from your sister Nuala and a lengthy poem from your brother Jim which arrived here at tour headquarters this week. Catherine, do you realise you are marrying into a family of Golf Masters fanatics?
Tom can have a Polo Shirt just for topping our Majors list. No poetry required. Just two teams managed to win zilch in all four majors - Brian O'Callaghan's `Thunderbirds' and Seamus Flood's `Lead Balloon'. In the overall quest to finish rock bottom, Paul Doyle's `Team 22403' is still `leading', `Thunderbirds' have managed to fall to second last, but it's bad news for Seamus - in the last few weeks the `Lead Balloon' has defied gravity and risen to 7th last place.
