Last Option has to be the right choice in the Stanley Casinos Handicap Chase at Newcastle today - even if he may have been flattered by his victory over Double Thriller last spring.

It is hard to believe that Last Option floored the odds-on favourite by three-quarters of a length in the Weatherbys Champion Novices' Hunters' Chase at Stratford last May. But subsequent efforts have suggested that it was an excellent performance.

Double Thriller is now a leading fancy for the Gold Cup and the Grand National after two recent impressive victories. Last Option is definitely not in that league but a Class D event over three miles at Newcastle in his first handicap looks well within his reach.

Both his runs so far this term have been in hunter chases. The first is best forgotten because the bridle came off after a mistake at the eighth fence. His rider Fiona Needham did remarkably well to stay in the plate but she could not avoid the inevitable and managed to get him to run out four fences later.

Chevalier Errant can confirm the promise of his eye-catching fifth to All Gong at Doncaster six weeks ago by opening his account in the Advent Racecourse Catering Maiden Hurdle.

And Rachael's Owen, who unseated his rider when a beaten favourite at Ayr last time, can recoup losses off bottom weight in the SV Rutter Handicap Chase.

Attadale hinted a return to form when fourth of 22 to Jowoody at Newcastle last time and can take the Ladbroke Hurdle.
