The world's top two golfers, Tiger Woods and David Duval, arrived in Kerry yesterday but instead of playing golf they spent their day unwinding from the jet lag by fishing on the famous salmon pool at Waterville House.

This morning, they plan to play over the Waterville links in preparation for next week's British Open at Carnoustie.

They were joined yesterday by Australian Stuart Appleby and Mark O'Meara, who also joined in the fishing. Today Payne Stewart and Lee Janzen are expected in Waterville. Meanwhile, Australian Greg Norman , who arrived at Shannon the previous evening, spent the morning inspecting the site on the new £12.5 million links at Doonbeg.

Former US Open champion Tom Kite is to miss his first British Open championship since 1981. Kite's recent form has prompted him to take some time off.
