Of course, much of what appears on the web is designed to lighten your wallet. The strength of this site is its Product Reviews, which has a rating scale of Eagle, Birdie, Par, Bogey and Double Bogey. For example, what do they make of the Callaway Steelhead Driver?
Low Handicap: Birdie. Mid Handicap: Eagle. High Handicap: Eagle
First they give you the company propaganda: "The Steelhead Plus incorporates several attributes that aide in performance. The Variable Face Thickness Technology is carefully calibrated to increase the efficiency of the clubhead at impact to maximise ball speed, resulting in a more penetrating ball flight in drivers and more accuracy in the fairway woods." etc.
Then they take it out for a Field Test: "Our test proved many of Callaway's claims. The club used was the 9 driver model with the Steelhead Plus Graphite firm flex shaft. Trajectory on centre hit shots proved to be optimal and distance was exceptional. The ball seemed to jump off the club face. Balls hit off centre still felt solid and the outcome was better than with earlier Callaway models such as the Great Big Bertha. The only draw- back worth noting is the aspect of shot workability, but with a club this solid that flaw can be overlooked by most golfers. You should get a lot of enjoyment out of this club, especially for the money. Relatively cheap for a pro-line driver.
Price: Around $249."
Impressively thorough.
