On December 1st 1939, Lee Trevino was born in Dallas, Texas. Entirely self-taught as a golfer, he became a protΘgΘ of Hardy Greenwood, owner of Hardy's Driving Range in Dallas, before serving in the US marine corps from the age of 17 to 21. In 1960, he turned professional and got his first job as an assistant in El Paso, Texas where he gained a reputation as a successful hustler. Of that period, Trevino famously observed: "Pressure is when you have a $20 putt on the 18th, with $10 in your pocket."
Widely acknowledged as having the most successfully repeating swing in the game, he went on to handle pressure very well, with six major victories - the US Open (1968, 1971), British Open (1971, 1972) and USPGA Championship (1974, 1984).
Teaser: Is a player allowed five minutes to search for his original ball and five more minutes to search for his provisional ball, or just a total of five minutes?
Answer: If the two balls are so close together that, in effect, both balls would be searched for simultaneously, a total of five minutes for search is allowed. Otherwise, the player is allowed to search five minutes for each ball.
