GERT-JAN THEUNISSE, who was king of the mountains in the 1989 Tour de France, will be manager of the team representing Holland, led by the Olympic mountain bike champion Bart Brentjens, in the FBD Milk Ras next week.
Theunisse, a member of the 1989 Tour-winning PDM team with Sean Kelly and Martin Earley, won the 17th stage from Briancon to Alpe d'Huez and finished fourth overall. Greg LeMond beat Laurent Fignon after the dramatic final stage time trial in Paris with Pedro Delgado third.
Kelly was ninth that year when he won the points classification for a record fourth time and he was best in the sprints competition as well. Earley was also a stage winner that year into Pau.
Theunisse, manager and agent for Brentjens, will also be in charge of Bram de Groot, Joost Ligthart, Bram Schmitz and Dennis Venema.
Doug Dailey, winner of the Tour of Ireland in 1971 and 1973 will be manager of the team representing Britain. There are changes in their line-up with Kevin Dawson, Lee Davis and Ian Gilkes replacing Craig Gillman, Andy Lyons and Simon Bray. The other original choices, Phil West and Brian Fleming, stay in.
