Longford Town 1 Waterford United 0A JOHN Lester penalty in the 12th minute helped Longford Town book their place in the fourth round in a pulsating tie at Flancare Park. The visitors found themselves reduced to 10 men and 1-0 down in the space of three minutes. In the ninth minute Mark Salmon was upended by Waterford keeper Chris Konopka. Referee Paul Tuite pointed to the spot and showed the netminder a red card. Up stepped John Lester and he blasted his spot-kick past Blues substitute keeper Kevin Burns.
Cathal Brady had a chance to double the lead in the 17th minute but Burns did well to save.
