Youth was very much to the fore when the East of Ireland Mixed Foursomes championship, sponsored by Cassidy's Hotels, was played out at Luttrellstown over the weekend.
Teenagers Brian O'Connor and Suzie Hayes from Hermitage took the main award with a total of 227 for the 534-hole event. Hayes was a member of the Irish girls' team this year while O'Connor played for the Leinster Boys in the interprovincial championships.
Hayes and O'Connor finished four shots clear of another young pair, Mark O'Sullivan and SinΘad O'Sullivan from Galway who took second place from Carlow's Paul Bulfin and Karen Delaney after both pairs finished on 231. Pat Dooley and international Claire Coughlan from Cork were next on 232.
Suzie Hayes also had the distinction of beating her parents - former international Tony Hayes and his wife Rosemary Hayes.
