The chairman of the Ulster branch of the GUI, Lindsay Shanks, has raised the issue of the GUI and ILGU amalgamating, and warned that the introduction of a computer data base for handicaps will be slightly delayed, during his address to their annual meeting at Shandon Park.

Discussions on the question of amalgamation are continuing.

The chairman announced that a charter for junior golf, drawn up by the GUI and ILGU, is about to be launched and expressed concern about the problems young people have about getting into clubs.

"We would like to try and help those young people to get a space somewhere," he said. "We hope that the clubs sign up to and implement this charter."
