All of the papers tip Bobby Robson to arrive at St James' Park as the replacement for Ruud Gullit, but the Mail on Sunday insist that the deal is done and that the former England boss will be in place within eight hours. The Sunday People reckons that Gullit got £1.5 million to leave the club while, helpfully, Chelsea chief executive Colin Hutchison contributes: "Sacking Ruud was the best thing we could have done," also according to the People.
The Sunday Mail reveal that Atletico Madrid are about to shell out £4 million for Celtic's Craig Burley, and also have Tommy Johnson leaving Parkhead to join up with Graham Taylor at Watford.
The Mail (it's been a good week for them) say that Manchester United are hoping to buy Italian goalkeeper Massimo Taibi from Venezia for £4.5 million before Tuesday's Champions League deadline. The great exclusives, however, are to be found in the News Of The World. There it is revealed, exclusively of course, that "Gazza (is) ready to quit international football," which won't exactly cause too many shockwaves around the game. Better still, however, was the revelation in the same paper that Dwight Yorke shares his underwear with his Manchester United team-mates. Yikes!
