Swinburn back in saddle

Walter Swinburn rides in Britain for the first time in exactly 11 months today

Walter Swinburn rides in Britain for the first time in exactly 11 months today. The three-time Derby-winning jockey, who took a "sabbatical" due to weight problems last April, partners Drive Assured for Clive Brittain in the £50,000-added Teletext Winter Derby at Lingfield.

He is fit from a spell riding in Dubai in the winter and could return to the Emirate for a ride in the Dubai World Cup a week tomorrow.

"Walter will ride at Doncaster next Thursday, then there is the possibility he could get a ride in the Dubai World Cup," agent Nick Jackson said yesterday. "Otherwise he will ride at Doncaster on Friday and Saturday too.

"He wants to get tomorrow out of the way first but he has been riding out virtually every day since he got back and he is very pleased with his weight - he hopes by the Craven meeting he will be able to make 8st 8lb.
