Bernard Sweeney turned back the clock last week when he won the Leinster Seniors Championship at The Island golf club. The former Senior Cup and Barton Shield player from the neighbouring Malahide club shot rounds of 75 and 76 to win by a shot from Joe Loughnane of Killarney who had two rounds of 76 and local Bernard Moore who shot a one over par 72 in the first round but missed out of the top award when taking 80 in the second.
However, Moore had some consolation last Saturday. Already the winner of the club championship he followed up by taking the golfer of the year trophy.
