The website of the Golfing Union of Ireland (www.gui.ie) promises to be a useful resource for those wishing to keep track of the amateur game. Pat Finn's arrival as a full time member of the Union's staff last year has resulted in a serious effort going into developing and maintaining the site.
The results of all national championships at senior, youth and boys levels, plus the finals of the Bulmers Cups and Shields, will be posted. Other pages on the site offer a fixture diary, a directory of affiliated clubs with links to their own home pages where applicable and past records of championship winners and international honours.
Leopardstown professional Michael Allan has picked up where he left off last season. He carded a 3 under par 69 at The K Club to win the Jimmy Heggarty Spawell Classic last Tuesday. Allan rose from 44th to eighth on the Irish Order of Merit last year and spent a week in Spain in February to sharpen up for the new campaign. Mick Murphy partnered Slade Valley amateurs Dave Britton and Ray Lennox to the team prize.
