Local player Padraig Dooley won the 36-hole Ford Cork Scratch Cup at a wet and windy Little Island on Sunday. The organisers decided to go for straight strokeplay this year after several years with qualifying rounds for matchplay, and 87 players took part with a handicap cut-off of 3.2.
Dooley set himself up for victory with the only sub-par round of the day, a one-under 71 in the morning. His 75 in the afternoon was just good enough to stave off the challenge of John Kavanagh (Castletroy) who had rounds of 74 and 73. Irish Close champion Eddie Power (Kilkenny) finished two behind in third place having lost his chance with a triple bogey seven at the 17th.
