Race-goers arriving at Fairyhouse yesterday were met by picketing racecourse catering staff who were carrying out unofficial strike action.

The action is believed to have taken place due to a dispute over new work practices.

The strike partly contributed to another day of traffic jams around Fairyhouse and a course spokesman said: "We had to restrict access through the front gate because of the strike and that caused some hold ups."
