MEN'S HOCKEY:THE FINAL matches of the Irish Hockey League are the main event of the weekend at Grange Road. Four teams, Three Rock Rovers, Irish Senior Cup winners Pembroke, Glenanne and Banbridge, go into tomorrow's semi-finals, with the final to be staged on Sunday at 4pm.
However, for the second week running, there has been surprise expressed over a decision by the Leinster management committee to allow the result of a Leinster League match between Corinthians and Fingal to stand despite an illegally registered South African playing for Corinthians.
Last week the Irish Hockey Association admitted that an illegal player had participated for Pembroke in the quarter-finals of the Irish Senior Cup and no action was taken.
It appears the Corinthians player in question was registered last November seven days after he played against Fingal, instead of the required seven days before.
The 5-3 win for Corinthians had a dramatic affect on the league table, where both clubs finished level on 27 points with Corinthians having the better goal difference, which in turn has affected Irish Hockey League qualifications next season.
The Leinster Branch said they will under take a complete review of registration for next season.
