Rockwell dominated the second half of yesterday's Munster Senior Cup tie against St Munchin's at Thomond Park and still went down to a heart-breaking defeat. Rockwell were guilty of poor decision-making and yet had every opportunity to save the game and indeed were attacking strongly when the game finally came to an end deep into stoppage time.
St Munchin's began the game more impressively and a penalty by full-back, David O'Donovan, after five minutes and a try after 20 minutes by centre, Ger Ryan, which O'Donovan converted, left them sitting pretty at 10-0 ahead. However, left winger Nabil McNaughton raced over for a fine Rockwell try almost from the kick-off and, even though O'Donovan kicked another penalty for St Munchin's before the interval, Rockwell were happy enough to turn around 13-5 behind, having played against a strong wind.
For all their pressure in the second half, however, all they could manage was a penalty in the 65th minute by Bryan Murphy.
