ALL-IRELAND COLLEGES SF 'A' FINAL St Mary's, Edenderry 1-16 St Michael's, Enniskillen 0-6:ST MARY'S claimed their first Hogan Cup success with a stunning performance at Croke Park. St Michael's had progressed to the final on the back of a brilliant defensive effort but the Enniskillen outfit could not cope with a potent St Mary's forward line.
It didn’t help that they spurned a glorious goalscoring opportunity after just 19 seconds, when Che Cullen dragged his shot wide from close range. Cian McMonagle, Mark Nolan, Seán Doyle and Ger Leech punished that miss to help open up a six-point lead for the Edenderry side and when Cian McMonagle goaled in the 18th minute, St Michael’s had a mountain to climb.
Barry McAleer got their first point in the 20th minute and added another quickly but three points from Leech helped make it 1-10 to 0-3 at half time.
Leech went on to add four more points and Daniel Grehan kicking a wonder score. Lee Brennan and Tommy McCaffrey doubled St Michael’s tally between them but there was simply no way back.
