NEWS ROUND-UP: James McCartan added another success to his impressive CV by managing the St Gall's team that defeated Derry's Glenullin in the Kilmacud Crokes All-Ireland football Sevens final at Páirc de Búrca on Saturday, 1-11 to 0-13.

The joy for St Gall's was accentuated by the fact the Antrim men had been beaten in last year's final by Longstone from Down.

Meanwhile, Pádraig Landers was the Beagh hero as his goal near the end of extra-time shocked three-times All-Ireland champions Athenry and sent them out of the Galway SHC title race.

And Aussie Rules star Colm Begley made a return to Gaelic football action at the weekend, but was unable to prevent Stradbally losing to Portlaoise, 1-14 to 2-8, in the Laois SFC quarter-final.
