ST DAVID'S Holy Faith Secondary School safely negotiated the first hurdle at Blackrock yesterday. St Conleth's did well to restrict a marauding St David's to an 8-0 lead at half time.
The winners' leaders were imposing number eight Barry Holmes and second row Alan Richardson. St David's advantage arrived courtesy of an eighth minute penalty from out half Brian O'Sullivan and a 22nd minute try from Barry Holmes.
Following a knock on from a line out, St Conleth's were awarded the put in to a scrum five metres from their own line. Pushed off their own ball, Conleth's went into rapid retreat and Holmes found it easy to make his way over.
A 36th minute penalty from replacement, Niall O'Mahony, snipped David's margin to five.
O'Sullivan then converted his own try from a straight burst 10 metres out, and full back Aaron Higgs rounded off the performance with a finely executed three quarter movement.
